During his final hours in office, President Joe Biden issued last-minute pardons to several individuals, including Gen. Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of Congress who served on the committee investigating January 6. However, some of the pardon recipients were caught off guard by the sudden announcement, with one individual mentioning that they are still waiting for the ink to dry on their pardon.
These pardons come at a time of transition in US leadership, with President Biden aiming to protect individuals who have been vocal critics of the incoming administration. One notable recipient of a pardon is former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who has faced threats of retribution from former President Trump.
In response to the pardon, Gen. Mark Milley expressed gratitude, stating, “My family and I are deeply grateful for the President’s action today. After forty-three years of faithful service in uniform to our Nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend whatever remaining time the Lord grants me fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights. I do not want to put my family, my friends, and those with whom I served through the resulting distraction, expense, and anxiety.”
