President Donald Trump assumed office on Monday, succeeding former President Joe Biden who had served for four years or 1,462 days. During his presidency, Biden made 136 trips to his home state of Delaware, often spending time at his Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach residences.
Biden, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, emphasized his modest upbringing in both Pennsylvania and Delaware. He made 50 trips to Pennsylvania, a battleground state he won in 2020 but Vice President Kamala Harris lost in 2024. Additionally, he visited Michigan and Wisconsin 13 times each.
Internationally, Biden's first trip as president was to Cornwall, England, for the G7 summit in June 2021. He also attended the NATO Summit in Belgium and met with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Geneva. The United Kingdom was the country he visited most frequently, followed by Germany, Israel, Belgium, Italy, Poland, and Japan.
During his presidency, Biden hosted six state dinners at the White House. Notable events included dinners with French President Emmanuel Macron, South Korean, Indian, and Australian leaders, as well as Japan's Fumio Kishida and Kenya's William Ruto.
As a consoler in chief, Biden delivered eight eulogies during his term, including remarks at the funeral service for former President Jimmy Carter in January. Biden, who has faced personal tragedies, has often been called upon to provide comfort and support during difficult times.
