President Joe Biden recently had the opportunity to enjoy a new helicopter as he utilized the WH-92A Patriot, designated as Marine One, for the first time. This iconic green-and-white helicopter is specifically designated for the US president and replaces the older VH-3D Sea King and VH-60N White Hawk helicopters that have been in use for Marine One for decades.
The inaugural flight of the WH-92A Patriot was delayed due to various reasons after years of efforts to replace the aging helicopters. The initiative to replace these helicopters began during the George W. Bush administration but faced setbacks such as cost overruns, communications issues, and the new helicopters' tendency to scorch the White House South Lawn.
It has been almost 20 years since the process to replace the aging presidential helicopters began. The trademark green-and-white color scheme of Marine One dates back to the 1950s, adding a touch of tradition to this modern upgrade in presidential transportation.
