President Joe Biden is expressing deep concern following the leak of highly classified US intelligence regarding Israel's plans to attack Iran. National security spokesperson John Kirby stated that the President will be actively monitoring the investigation into the leak.
Kirby emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the leakage of classified information into the public domain is unacceptable and should not happen. He assured reporters that President Biden will closely follow the progress of the investigative efforts to determine how the leak occurred and will be interested in any recommendations for mitigation measures.
The Department of Defense is currently conducting an investigation to determine the source of the leaked documents. Kirby mentioned that, at this time, there is no indication that similar documents will be released in the future.
The leaked documents, dated October 15 and 16, were posted online by an account named 'Middle East Spectator' on Telegram. The documents, marked as top secret and intended only for the US and its 'Five Eyes' allies, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, have raised concerns about the security breach.
Kirby confirmed that the US has been in communication with Israeli officials regarding the disclosure but did not provide specific details about those conversations. The incident has underscored the importance of safeguarding classified information and maintaining strong security protocols to prevent unauthorized disclosures.
