President Joe Biden was briefed by his homeland security team on the deadly New Year’s attack in New Orleans, as reported by the White House. The President expressed gratitude for the swift response of local law enforcement in preventing further casualties.
New Orleans holds a special place in President Biden's heart, with close ties to the state of Louisiana. Notably, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and former US Rep. Cedric Richmond, both from Louisiana, have served in key roles within the Biden administration. Landrieu served as the president’s infrastructure coordinator, while Richmond led the Office of Public Engagement and co-chaired the president’s reelection campaign.
In a show of support for the city, President Biden visited New Orleans in August to highlight new funding for a cancer detection research program at Tulane University, where his daughter Ashley attended.
