President Joe Biden announced a significant development on Wednesday, revealing a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. This announcement followed a temporary agreement to pause fighting in Gaza and the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
During his address, President Biden expressed his relief, stating, 'It's a very good afternoon because at long last I can announce a ceasefire and a hostage deal has been reached between Israel and Hamas after more than 15 months of conflict that began with Hezbollah's brutal massacre on October 7th.' It is worth noting that Biden misspoke by attributing the October 7, 2023 attack to Hezbollah, when in fact it was another group.
The President acknowledged the immense suffering endured by the hostages, their families, the Israeli people, and the innocent civilians of Gaza over the past 15 months. He assured that the fighting in Gaza would cease, and the hostages would soon be reunited with their families.
Biden's announcement took place at the White House, where he was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Concurrently, Qatar's prime minister confirmed the successful conclusion of the deal between Israel and Hamas.
