President Joe Biden expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the President of the United States in his final days in office. Speaking at a gathering of mayors, Biden emphasized that while his term is ending, the work for the country will continue.
Biden highlighted that addressing the group of mayors was one of his last official events as president, recalling that it was one of the first things he did upon taking office. He underscored the importance of engaging with local leaders and communities throughout his presidency.
During the event, Biden announced the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, marking a significant milestone in ensuring gender equality protections in the Constitution. He emphasized that after consulting with constitutional scholars, the ERA has now become the 28th amendment to the Constitution.
Before concluding his remarks, Biden was honored with the United States Conference of Mayors’ Award for Distinguished Public Service by the mayor of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew Ginther.
Throughout his presidency, Biden has focused on a range of policy initiatives and actions, including efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and social justice issues.
