Premier League trio 'make contact' as Wolves set Ruben Neves price tag

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly want close to a club-record transfer fee to allow Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves to leave Molineux this summer.

Spanish outlet Sport have reported that Wolves want close to a ‘record fee’ to part ways with Neves in the coming transfer window and want a fee of €50million (£42.5m) to allow the midfielder to part ways with Bruno Lage’s side.

The report claims that in recent days, Premier League trio Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United have all made contact with the Old Gold over Neves’ availability and that the English trio have shown an interest in signing the ex-Porto man.

It also suggests that Spanish side Barcelona would also want to bring the midfielder to the club. However, they are believed to be not willing to pay anywhere near that much to sign Neves. The midfielder recently admitted that while he loves being at Wolves, should other opportunities present themselves in the coming months, they may prove too good to ignore.

“Everyone knows about what football is about, what our lives are about,” Neves told The Athletic. “Our careers are really short, we need to take the opportunities we have. Of course, all of us have dreams and we need to live those dreams in a short space of time. Let's see what happens. I cannot say too much about it.

“This club means everything for me, for my family,” added Neves. "My kids grew up in Wolverhampton; I have three kids, they were all born when I was here. That means a lot to me and the people mean a lot to me because they really helped me to settle here. For me, for my family, everyone is really important.

“If I go it would be really hard for me and my family. But, as I told you, we have dreams to live in a short space of time. And if anything happens, that's why I was so emotional the last game at home because I don't know how it's going to be. If it was my last game it was really important. But I don't know anything yet. So, for now, I'm just thinking of my holidays and the national team.”

While Neves’ season with Wolves is over, he does still have international football with Portugal to prepare for before his summer break. Portugal play the first four of their group matches in the latest edition of the UEFA Nations League, taking on Spain (June 2), Switzerland (June 5), Czech Republic (June 9) and finishing with a return meeting with Switzerland (June 12).

Since his arrival from Porto in 2017, Neves has played 212 times in all competitions for the Old Gold, scoring 24 goals in that time. Neves has been a regular for club and country in recent years, playing 26 times for his country.

Manchester United are set to be on the hunt for a new midfielder this summer, with Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all set to depart.

Wolves sold Portuguese forward Diogo Jota to Liverpool two summers ago for a reported fee of £41million.
