Premier League transfer state of play from "done" Liverpool to "not ready" Chelsea

We are under two weeks away from the start of the Premier League season - if you haven't got what you need yet before the opening weekend you might be about to need a desperate Supermarket Sweep.

Of course, there have been some pretty exciting deals already this summer. Erling Haaland, Darwin Nunez, Fabio Vieira and Lisandro Martinez will all undoubtedly light up the top end of the Premier League, while Nayef Aguerd, Jesse Lingard and Sven Botman could give their new sides a boost from last season.

There is still plenty of time to make more additions, and some clubs will certainly feel they are a little light on quality or would just like another player to improve their situation.

Others, meanwhile, and happy to be done and dusted with their summer business.

Take the Premier League's two premier German managers for an example, with the weekend seeing Jurgen Klopp declare that Liverpool were "done" with their summer transfer business, while Thomas Tuchel claimed Chelsea weren't ready for the new campaign and needed new bodies.

So who else is happy, who has plenty to do and which players might still be at a new club come September 1? Mirror Football has delved into each club for the answers...

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta spent nearly £160m last summer and this summer was supposed to be about quality rather than quantity… but they have still broken the bank again.

They have signed a new centre forward in Jesus, attacking midfielder in Vieira, back-up keeper in Matt Turner which may allow Bernd Leno to go and Zinchenko is set to arrive to cover at left back in midfield.

They still want more as they want a wide player, an attacking or box-to-box midfielder which may yet be Youri Tielemans and also want to offload players to trim the squad with Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Nicolas Pepe and Pablo Mari among those available.

Aston Villa

Villa have been active in the transfer window after Boubacar Kamara signed as a free transfer from Marseille just after the end of last season and boss Steven Gerrard has since added Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, while Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have made their loan moves permanent.

Most recently, Sevilla left-back Ludwig Augustinsson has also agreed a season-loan. But the Villa boss is still interested in another midfielder and a striker to give his side more firepower as they aim to break into the top ten after coming 14th last season. James Nursey

Bournemouth

Like their first promotion to the Premier League, Bournemouth have a largely settled team which did the business in the Championship - with a strong spine of Mark Travers in goal, Lloyd Kelly in defence, Jefferson Lerma in midfield and Dominic Solanke up front.

They quickly moved to bring in long-term targets Ryan Fredericks and Joe Rothwell in from West Ham and Blackburn. Scott Parker is currently battling with Nottingham Forest for Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier, and are reportedly in pole position.

After Nat Phillips' return to Liverpool and Gary Cahill's release, an experienced centre-back is still needed, with hopes the former will return. Not technically a new signing, but will feel like one, is David Brooks. He overcame Hodgkin lymphoma last year and is slowly being eased back into full-time training. Alex Smith

Brentford

Brentford have got a lot of their business done early, with four new faces already through the door.

Long-term targets Aaron Hickey and Keane Lewis-Potter were snapped up first, following the club's tried and rested model in investing in youth. They have been joined by goalkeeper Albanian international keeper Thomas Strakosha and experienced defender Ben Mee to bolster their options at the back.

Brighton

After a ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, many would expect Brighton to try and kick on by spending big. However, their focus is on keeping the core of their squad at the AMEX and integrating those who spent last season out on loan, such as Deniz Undav and Kauro Mitoma.

Yves Bissouma is the Seagulls’ biggest loss so far this summer following his move to Tottenham, though they are in talks with free agent Florian Grillitsch – formerly of Hoffenheim – to replace the Mali international.

Brighton are also keen to keep Marc Cucurella at the club amid interest from Manchester City, only willing to part ways with the Spaniard for £50m. Graham Potter’s side’s lack of a clinical finisher has been an issue for several seasons, though they may have addressed that woe in January by signing Undav from Union Saint Gilloise – who he was loaned back to.

Therefore, assuming there are no more major outgoings, attention will turn to how they will strengthen their defence, following the departures of Dan Burn and Ben White in the last 12 months. Charlie Parker-Turner

Chelsea

Two terrific captures so far in Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. Four-time title winner and Champions League finalist Sterling arrives with a wealth of experience, goals and assists. Still only 27, he will give Chelsea consistency on the left. He has left some Manchester City fans concerned that he could become the first player of the Pep Guardiola reign to have the Spaniard regretting his decision to allow him to leave.

Koulibaly will provide organisation, defensive cohesion and even more leadership alongside Thiago Silva.

Thomas Tuchel is still looking for two more experienced central defenders. Chelsea is in talks with Sevilla for the versatile Jules Kounde and classy Presnel Kimpembe, a serial winner at PSG.

Chelsea are also looking for more legs in midfield with 23-year-old Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes a prime candidate. And a striker with Liverpool having landed Darwin Nunez and City boasting both Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Darren Lewis

Crystal Palace

One of Patrick Vieira's biggest problems was replacing Conor Gallagher after his season-long loan deal ended. He resolved that by bringing in Cheick Doucoure from Lens on a five-year deal. Palace fans will be hoping the 22-year-old will fill Gallagher's impressive shoes.

Vieira has also bolstered his goalkeeping department with the arrival of Sam Johnstone on a free transfer - which will perhaps see Jack Butland leave Selhurst Park - and teenage forward Malcolm Ebiowei has joined from Derby County.

Palace are set to make at least one more signing before the start of the season as Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards is on the verge of signing a five-year deal. Vieira's side have recruited well and, as ever, will be hoping no one comes in for Wilfried Zaha. Tom Blow

Everton

The Toffees are not in good shape so far in this window. Their only signing is a good one with James Tarkowski coming in on a free at centre-back but the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham is a blow to their squad strength.

Boss Frank Lampard wants to add more names but the Blues are restricted by financial constraints. They are chasing a No 6 in midfield as well as attacking options but no deals are close despite numerous players being linked with them this summer. Chris McKenna

Fulham

Marco Silva hasn't been awfully busy in the window with midfielders Joao Palhinha and Andreas Pereira joining from Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United respectively. Both are decent signings, but Fulham's lack of signings suggests their business will go down to the wire.

Buying a new goalkeeper is a priority and a deal for Arsenal's Bernd Leno would be perfect, seeing as he already lives in London and the Gunners have signed a replacement in Matt Turner. Paris Saint-Germain's Sergio Rico and Barcelona's Neto are viewed as alternatives.

Fulham do need reinforcements in every department if they're to stay in the Premier League. Yet supporters won't mind waiting until the right player comes along. Tom Blow

Leeds

Leeds have spent the £100million they received for Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips on completely overhauling their squad and they have signed Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams, Darko Gyabi and Luis Sinisterra.

They want a striker to take some of the goalscoring burden off Patrick Bamford’s shoulders and are targeting Paris St Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo with AC Milan set to beat them to Bruges’ Charles De Ketelaere.

Leeds are also battling to keep Jack Harrison out of Newcastle ’s clutches and have slapped a £30million price tag on the winger’s head to ward off their unwanted interest. Jesse Marsch will also be making late moves for a left back as Junior Firpo will miss the first month of the season with a knee injury. David Anderson

Leicester

The Foxes are still to make a summer signing as Brendan Rodgers’ anticipated summer rebuild is yet to start. City appear to be waiting to cash in on Youri Tielemans before going into the market. Classy Belgium playmaker Tielemans only has one year left on this deal at the King Power Stadium and is a target for Arsenal. Rodgers is expected to use any cash raised to bring in a new midfielder and a striker.

Other exits are on the cards for squad men like Caglar Soyuncu, Hamza Choudhury Ayoze Perez and Boubakary Soumare could raise further funds. A new striker is a priority to compete with Jamie Vardy who showed last season at 35 that he starting to get some niggling injuries. Names in the frame include Charles De Ketelaere,21, of Club Brugge, who played a total of 49 times last season, scoring 18 goals and providing another 10 assists. James Nursey

Liverpool

The Reds have brought in Darwin Nunez for potentially a club record £85m with Sadio Mane heading to Bayern Munich. The Reds are now well set in attacking areas with Fabio Carvalho, a teenager who lit up the Championship last season, also offering more energy up front.

The departure of Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest is offset by the arrival of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen, a bright prospect who will provide back up to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back. The Reds are unlikely to do any more business this summer unless a deal crops up. Chris McKenna

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has landed the big one in the shape of striker Erling Haaland, to make his reigning champions look an even more formidable force come the start of the new season.

And just for good measure, City have also added England star Kalvin Phillips to their ranks to add even greater depth to midfield. City have sold Raheem Sterling to Chelsea, but wingers will not be in short supply, although the sale of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and the on-going absence of Benjamin Mendy for legal reasons does appear to leave them short at left back. Jeremy Cross

Manchester United

The signings of Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were much needed and will strengthen United in key areas. But it has still been a frustrating summer for new boss Erik Ten Hag, who has seen a deal for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong hit a brick wall, while the future of Cristiano Ronaldo remains uncertain.

Should Ronaldo leave, United look short when it comes to having a serious goal threat. Perhaps the Dutchman is hoping to revive the fortunes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial? Jeremy Cross

Newcastle

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't quite been spotted down the Bigg Market Chippy yet, but while the slow and steady Newcastle transfer approach might not be sating the desires of the transfer-hungry, the moves being made are shrewd ones.

Nick Pope brings his Premier League experience from relegated Burnley, with Matt Targett's loan deal turned into a permanent transfer much to the delight of Magpies fans who were impressed with him last season. Defender Sven Botman - he who would often see his name in lights alongside that of a Champions League club in recent transfer windows - is the headline addition though, with the Dutch centre-back earning comparisons with his compatriot Virgil van Dijk.

Are they 'fantasy football' additions? Not quite, but they are clever ones. Now for a striker to complete the summer. Mark Jones

Nottingham Forest

Boss Steve Cooper must be pleased with his summer transfer window so far after signing Taiwo Awoniyi, Brandon Aguilera , Wayne Hennessey, Neco Williams , Omar Richards, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Lewis O'Brien and Harry Toffolo.

Striker Awoniyi became their record buy from Union Berlin in a deal worth up to £17million but the club are also after another striker. A move to bring back Keinan Davies to the City Ground after his successful loan from Aston Villa is possible. But Cooper is also believed to be considering targets like Emmanuel Dennis of Watford. James Nursey

Southampton

This felt like a turnover summer for Southampton, a window to get rid of some deadwood and replace them. So far only Fraser Forster and Shane Long have departed but a talented list of arrivals have been ushered in at St Mary's.

Joe Aribo has switched Rangers for Southampton (REUTERS)

Gavin Bazunu and Kateusz Lis may well be No.1 and 2 keepers, Armel Bella-Kotchap adds some depth to the defence, while Romeo Lavia and Joe Aribo are exciting midfielders.

The central attacking areas are the main worry though. Armando Broja won't be returning from his Chelsea loan and Che Adams and Adam Armstrong haven't exactly been prolific in the Premier League. Some more help from out wide would help too, with last season's crop full of duffs who flattered to deceive for much of the season - Nathan Redmond, Theo Walcott, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Moussa Djenepo were all guilty. Sekou Mara from Bordeaux will hopefully arrive and solve some of those issues. Alex Smith

Tottenham

Spurs went into the window with intent and a £150m wad of cash and Antonio Conte has been busy building an uncompromising heart to his team on which to build more consistent success.

Whether Richarlison lives up to his price tag is a big question, although Spurs are in credit having landed Ivan Perisic for nothing. Conte is still another centre-back from being entirely happy and there is still no recognisable alternative to Harry Kane.

Factoring in their January signings, though, Spurs go into this season much stronger as a squad than into the last. Matthew Dunn

West Ham

Having been given the brush off by Jesse Lingard, if they can land James Ward-Prowse instead it could be the making of the team as aside from a work ethic which will match anything in the dressing room already, there’s those set-pieces.

David Moyes will know how to make fullest advantage of that Ward-Prowse delivery, which will make a small dent in the pressure heaped upon Gianluca Scamacca to perform. The £34m Italian is striker no. 51 of the David Gold and David Sullivan era - or should that be ‘error’ the way most have misfired.

An ankle injury will not help Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd to acclimatise into the Premier League and West Ham need to be tight from the start if they are to snatch the points they need to match the exploits of previous seasons. That said, if they keep Declan Rice, most West Ham fans will be happy. Matthew Dunn

Wolves

After their European push faded out with a whimper last season, Wolves are in a state of uncertainty entering their second season under Bruno Lage.

The arrival of Nathan Collins from Burnley appears a shrewd signing and brings the possibility Lage could finally make into a back-four and away from the more defensive system they mastered under Nuno Espirito Santo. Ultimately, more goals are needed - and the departure of Fabio Silva on loan leaves Raul Jimenez as the only recognised senior striker.

Hopes are high for Morgan Gibbs-White as he returns from his successful Sheffield United loan spell, but another addition in central midfield looks necessary, especially with Ruben Neves' future still uncertain. Rich Jones
