Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to pull on a Manchester United shirt for the first time in two-and-a-half months as the Red Devils host Spanish side Rayo Vallecano in a friendly on Sunday.

The Portugal captain, 37, has announced he will return to action for his club this Sunday despite the fact he was left out of the squad to face Atletico Madrid in Oslo, Norway on Saturday. He is yet to make an appearance under Erik ten Hag having missed United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia for 'family reasons'.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has been pushing to leave Old Trafford to join a club which can offer him Champions League football, but his manager has insisted he is going nowhere. The striker has been forced to address claims about his future with just over one week remaining until the start of United's Premier League campaign.

In a major boost for Ten Hag, Ronaldo has announced he is ready to feature for the Red Devils for the first time since the 4-0 defeat by Brighton in early May. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner responded to a post on one of his many Instagram fan pages which shared the list of the 21-man squad travelling to Scandinavia for Saturday's clash with Atletico.

Newcastle in for James Maddison

Newcastle have launched a move for Leicester star James Maddison.

The Magpies are looking to revamp Eddie Howe's squad as they look to live up to the expectations that come from their Saudi Arabia owners. According to The Telegraph, Maddison has now been identified as a key target.

The Toon submitted a £40m bid for the midfielder on Friday, but saw that rejected by the Foxes. Howe is now mulling making an improved offer.

Reports indicate that only a bid of £60 million will tempt Leicester to let their star man go.

Werner on the way out of Chelsea?

Timo Werner could lead a clearout of up to 15 players at Chelsea as the club looks to streamline its playing squad ahead of the new campaign.

Werner hinted at a possible exit from Stamford Bridge this summer when stating: "It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and, also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup." The German international could be the most eye-catching exit in a busy summer at the club.

Ex Chelsea star Michael Ballack has hinted that Timo Werner should demand an exit from Chelsea as RB Leipzig, Juventus and Arsenal battle to sign the striker.

"Timo has been a lot better than what he is at the moment in terms of personality and character. It was a brave step on his part to go to Chelsea, knowing what their setting is like – but he hasn’t managed to establish himself," Ballack said.

"He now needs to build up his mental strength once again. He strikes me as a nice guy, but he has to try to flip the switch so he can believe in himself once more. To my mind he is too well-behaved, and he resigns himself to his fate. If that does not change, he will continue to have a difficult time."

Abraham plays down Premier League links

Tammy Abraham has shut down suggestions he could leave Roma for the Premier League this summer, insisting he is happy in Italy.

"The first day I arrived at Roma I felt at home. I'm in no hurry to return to the Premier League because here I can express my way of playing. In Italy I feel happy in every respect,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“Believe me, I don't think about the future, but about the present. I focus exclusively on the season that is about to begin, because I want it to be even more rewarding than the first I experienced in Italy.”

Aaron Ramsey offered MLS lifeline

MLS side Charlotte have launched a shock move for former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey.

The Welshman terminated his contact at Juventus on Tuesday following a disastrous spell in Turin. He has attracted interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest.

But according to the Daily Mail, Charlotte have now entered the race as they look to get their first season off to a bang. Ramsey will now assess his options ahead of deciding his next destination.

De Jong deal not dead just yet

Frenkie De Jong may yet move to Manchester United this summer according to Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

New United boss Erik Ten Hag has been desperate to add the Dutch midfielder to his ranks all summer. However a few days ago, the long running saga appeared to have petered out.

However, there is still hope for United fans that the Dutch dynamo may move to Manchester before the transfer window slams shut in a few weeks time.

Asked whether he could categorically confirm De Jong will not move to Old Trafford, Laporta told CBS Sports : "In football, you never know. I can't say categorically. It all depends on the different parties.

"But in principle, I can say there is a strong possibility he stays, and I can say as president I will do my best for him to stay at Barcelona.

"We want Frenkie to stay at Barcelona. We love the player and him as a human being. I want him to stay at Barcelona.

"He's a high-quality player and a good guy. I also know that he wants to stay."
