Premier League transfer news: Ronaldo's Messi motivation for exit, Barkley for sale, Wijnaldum transfer listed

The summer transfer window continues at great pace as we edge towards the start of the Premier League season on August 6. Here are the latest transfer rumours:

Cristiano Ronaldo motivation fuelled by Lionel Messi emerges behind Man Utd transfer exit

The 37-year-old has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer and is hoping to force an exit after the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Ronaldo is highly concerned about Lionel Messi passing him as the competition's top scorer and is 'ready to do anything' for a transfer.

Ronaldo has netted 140 goals in the Champions League - 15 more than second-placed Messi, who will have the chance to close the gap if the former does not play in the competition. Robert Lewandowski (86), Karim Benzema (86) and Raul (71) complete the top five.

The fact Messi is over two years younger than Ronaldo could see the former Barcelona superstar to leapfrog him as the all-time Champions League top scorer. Messi netted five goals in seven European matches last season, including two against Manchester City.

Boehly bought the Blues in May and has been busy ever since with sporting director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck subsequently announcing their departures.

That has forced the American billionaire to take a very hands-on approach during his first few months in charge and he has become personally involved in the Blues' transfer dealings.

And now ex-Man City chief Tom Glick is set to take a role at the club. It comes as midfielder Ross Barkley has been put up for sale.

Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry has snubbed interest from Chelsea to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Georginio Wijnaldum 'transfer listed' sparking Liverpool return rumours

The Dutch international midfielder left Anfield as a free agent after his contract at the club expired last summer but his spell in the French capital has been described as a 'nightmare'.

A French media outlet even harshly labelled him as the 'Ligue 1 Flop of the Year' while separate reports claimed that PSG's South American contingent – led by Lionel Messi – did not get along with Wijnaldum during the club's training session.

Wijnaldum started fewer than half of PSG's 38 Ligue 1 matches last season and netted just one domestic goal for Mauricio Pochettino's side. Furthermore, he did not feature in the club's Champions League knockout stages – as they were eliminated against Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old's diminishing status at the club has now been underlined by his missing out on the club's pre-season tour to the Far East. Christophe Galtier is the new PSG boss and this is the biggest indication yet that the former Newcastle midfielder does not feature in his plans.

Jurgen Klopp has previously admitted Liverpool 'miss' his energetic presence in their squad.

Last October, he said: "Even when we prepare for an opponent like Chelsea, we look at our games against Chelsea and see Gini running around there. We still have to get used to that. It is not only on the pitch we miss him but we really, really miss him in the dressing room as well."
