Liverpool opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table on Sunday.
The Reds overcame Southampton 3-2 in a thrilling game on the south coast to continue their fine start to the season. Later that day, Ruben Amorim’s time in charge of Manchester United ended in a relatively underwhelming 1-1 draw with Ipswich.
Already five points clear before a ball was kicked this weekend, the Reds saw Premier League Manchester City champions fall to a dismal 4-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday evening, a result that could also open the door for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side got back to winning ways by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 at home earlier on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace dropped more points in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, while Fulham were thrashed 4-1 at home by Wolves. Brentford, meanwhile, claimed their first away point of the season in a 0-0 draw at Everton.
Chelsea had first beaten Leicester 2-1 on Saturday to put further pressure on the top three.
West Ham’s trip to Newcastle on Monday rounds off the action.
