Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, while 10-man Newcastle edged past Southampton. Brighton thrashed Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park, with Nottingham Forest drawing 1-1 against Bournemouth at the City Ground after a broken ankle suffered by midfielder Danilo.
Aston Villa then claimed a late 2-1 victory over West Ham in the Saturday evening kick-off.
Sunday saw the first London derby of the season as Brentford - without Ivan Toney - beat Crystal Palace before Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea were beaten at home by champions Manchester City.
Tottenham then round off the first weekend of action by traveling to Championship winners Leicester on Monday night.
