Premier League 'should thank' Liverpool as blunt message sent to Man City and Chelsea

There's no getting away from it, the challenge of the Brighton keeper on Luis Diaz is a red card.

It doesn’t matter whether the ball goes in the net or not, that’s a seriously bad challenge. You can go back to the Jordan Pickford challenge on Van Dijk last season, which was a bad one, and this Diaz one was even more reckless.

Diaz got very lucky because he could have easily damaged his cheekbone, his jaw or his eyes. It is serious foul play. Why don’t they allow the referees to go and look at these challenges? The VAR assistant should be dropped, in my opinion, it is that bad. I don’t necessarily think Sanchez has meant to hurt Diaz, but that is beside the point.

I certainly prefer football pre-VAR. It is spoiling the game.

We’ve had one or two things go our way on VAR this year, the penalty we got at Crystal Palace was possibly a bit fortunate, but it doesn’t seem to favour Liverpool a lot of the time.

You look at the Everton penalty decision against Man City, the penalty call in Man City vs Wolves when a handball is given when it hits his back - it is just so frustrating.

VAR is there to help referees, but it is probably hindering them.

Liverpool are the reason the Premier League remains worth watching

Do I feel sorry for the current position Chelsea find themselves in? No.

I only feel sorry for the innocent people who may be losing their jobs at the club. But Chelsea, as a club, have been wallowing in this for too long and what goes around comes around. Someone else will buy the club and they will be able to go about things in the right way then.

The powers that be in England should get down on their knees and thank Liverpool Football Club and praise Jurgen Klopp for making this league half-decent. Without Liverpool, Manchester City just fly away with this league season after season. The title would have been over by Christmas in the last few years if Liverpool weren't around.

And the Premier League have allowed this to happen, first at Chelsea first and then at Man City. The way clubs are run in this country needs reviewing, without a doubt.
