Premier League return could potentially be 'jeopardised' by shortage of TV trucks

The return of the Premier League this weekend could be threatened by a shortage of TV trucks, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The report adds that Sky Sports are running out of broadcast trucks required to deliver live coverage because many are being used by their sister channel, Sky News, for the 24/7 coverage being given to Her Majesty the Queen's funeral.

Sky Sports are set to televise four live Premier League matches this weekend as well as a further two live Championship games on Saturday, plus Scottish Premier League and Women's Super League fixtures on Sunday.

Although Newcastle's home clash against AFC Bournemouth is not among the four televised top-flight games, further cancelations will inevitably cause a huge backlog of fixtures heading into next year.

Football fixtures at all levels were postponed last weekend following the Queen's death on Thursday and will be rescheduled for next year. The Premier League will already be taking a six-week break for this winter's World Cup in Qatar, with those competing in European competition playing a game every three and a half days.

The strain on police resources is proving the biggest obstacle for the Premier League as up 10,000 police officers will be deployed in London ahead of the funeral, however, this wouldn't affect the Magpies.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) have said their guidance will remain the same this coming week, meaning sporting bodies have complete control as to which events go ahead.

The Football League and The National League have released statements confirming games will take place throughout this week. The Premier League is poised to make a decision in the coming days as to whether football will return before the state funeral next week.
