Premier League officials called to emergency meeting after huge VAR error costs Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s side dropped two points against Brentford on Saturday

Premier League officials have been summoned to an emergency meeting tomorrow following a weekend of high-profile errors.

On Saturday, Arsenal dropped what could prove a crucial two points in the title race after VAR Lee Mason forgot to properly check an offside in the build-up to Brentford’s equaliser.

Brighton were incorrectly denied a goal against Crystal Palace after the VAR used the wrong player when drawing lines to check for offside. James Tomkins was the player focused on, despite Marc Guehi standing behind him.

John Brooks, the VAR in the latter case, was due to fill the role during tonight’s Merseyside derby, as well as Wednesday’s title clash between Arsenal and Manchester City, though he has now been replaced and will not be involved.

New referees chief Howard Webb has called all officials to a summit at Stockley Park after Professional Game Match Officials Limited confirmed both botched decisions had been a result of “human error”.
