Here is the latest Premier League news for Wednesday, March 23.
Southampton goalkeeper called up to England squad ahead of Leeds United clash
Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has received his first England call-up since 2017. Sam Johnstone was brought into the squad on Monday as replacement for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who withdrew with a hip injury.
The West Brom goalkeeper missed training on Tuesday and has left Gareth Southgate's squad, with Forster earning a surprise call-up. The 34-year-old has impressed with Southampton this season but won the last of his six England caps in 2016. Forster will join Saints team-mates James Ward-Prowse and Kyle Walker-Peters in Southgate's squad.
Wayne Rooney and Patrick Vieira head up eight 2022 Premier League Hall of Fame inductees
Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and ex-Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira have become the latest inductees into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
The pair join 2021 inductees Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Dennis Bergkamp in the Hall of Fame, with six more former players set to be inducted this year.
The Hall of Fame recognises and celebrates the exceptional skill and talent of individuals who have graced the Premier League since its inception in 1992. It is the highest individual honour awarded to players by the League.
The Premier League also announced a shortlist of 25 former players who are eligible to join its official Hall of Fame in 2022. Fans around the world can now cast their vote for the six players who will join Rooney and Vieira in being inducted this year.
Harry Kane makes England record admission
Harry Kane has his sights firmly set on breaking Wayne Rooney's England goalscoring record this year. The Tottenham striker and Three Lions captain is currently five short of Rooney's tally of 53. England face friendlies against Switzerland on Saturday, and the Ivory Coast the following Tuesday, after which Kane could be within touching distance of the all-time record.
"I want to play as many games as possible. I'll be ready whenever I'm needed," he said in a press conference broadcast by Sky Sports News. "I would love to break that record. Hopefully, with the games we have this year, that will be possible. I am in a really good place at the moment."
