Premier League make major King Charles fixture decision affecting Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham

The Premier League have made requests for all clubs to play the national anthem before matches next weekend ahead of King Charles III's coronation, according to reports.

The royal ceremony is due to take place on Saturday, May 6, with five league fixtures scheduled including Bournemouth vs Chelsea and Tottenham vs Crystal Palace.

According to the Daily Mail, clubs have been 'strongly suggested' to play God Save the King ahead of the matches over the weekend. Arsenal take on Newcastle at St James' Park the day after.

It is also said that clubs will be given an official portrait of Charles and the Queen Consort alongside the coronation logo in order to be displayed on big screens around the stadiums.

Currently, the national anthem is saved for domestic cup finals at Wembley, though Everton and West Ham played God Save the Queen when meeting after Elizabeth II's death in September, other grounds held a minute of silence.

The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey and is scheduled to begin at 11am, finishing at 1pm ahead of the larger process at Buckingham Palace later in the day. In total, there are three games in the capital across the weekend with West Ham hosting Manchester United on Sunday.

Fulham face Leicester City on Monday afternoon.
