Premier League make decision on Tottenham vs Arsenal date as North London Derby to be rearranged

Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly set to face each other on the penultimate week of the season after the Premier League advised each club of their plans after the original tie was postponed.

The two sides were set to clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 16 only for the Premier League to call the game off after an outbreak of COVID among the Arsenal camp. Both teams are challenging for the top four and the late-season clash could be a decider.

MailOnline report that, while the official date has not been confirmed, sources have confirmed that plans to play the game in the week beginning May 9 have been relayed to both sides. To make the week even more dramatic, Manchester United face a daunting clash with Chelsea the following weekend.

With no European clashes scheduled for that midweek, it means the clash will be in a prime position to attract the eyes of the world. Sky Sports were originally scheduled to broadcast the match so will likely retain the rights for the rescheduled match, with the report also suggesting that broadcasters had also exerted pressure for the game to be held as late as possible in the season.

Both United and West Ham will also retain hopes of joining Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in next season's Champions League. Arsenal, however, remain in pole position to claim the final place, sat three points ahead of Spurs and four ahead of Ralf Rangnick's side with a game in hand on both.

The previous North London Derby saw Mikel Arteta's side brush their rivals aside with ease as goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe secured a 3-1 victory.
