Premier League headlines as Manchester United stand firm after Cristiano Ronaldo reveals desire to leave Old Trafford

Here are the latest Premier League headlines on Sunday, 3 July.

Manchester United unwilling to sell Cristiano Ronaldo

Less than a year after returning to Old Trafford, superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United. The Times reported on Saturday the 37-year-old forward is keen on leaving the north-west this summer amid transfer uncertainty at Old Trafford.

While the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all strengthened their squads with high quality additions, Manchester United have yet to make a single summer signing so far. Now in the twilight of his career, Ronaldo is keen to play Champions League football and win as many trophies as possible, something which he does not believe Manchester United can offer him.

However, it is understood Manchester United do not want to sell Ronaldo and are unwilling to entertain any offers from Premier League rivals. Recently, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes, with a potential move to the Blues said to be among the topics of discussion.

While Manchester United won't want to strengthen a direct rival, they may be forced to sell the star forward if the swirling news around his future becomes a hinderance to Erik ten Hag's preparations to the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Clubs enter race for out of contract star Jesse Lingard

Three Premier League teams have entered the race for out of contract midfielder Jesse Lingard. While West Ham United were said to be favourites to land Lingard, who departed Manchester United this summer, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United are all said to be keen on signing the 29-year-old.

The Daily Mirror reports the trio all have interest in Lingard, who played a bit part role at Old Trafford last term. West Ham have already made a contract approach to the England international, but their wage offer is said to have fallen short of Lingard's expectations.

His performances during the back end of the 2020/21 campaign showed just what Lingard can offer a Premier League outfit. He still has plenty of years left in him and would likely arrive at his new club with added determination to break back into Gareth Southgate's England squad ahead of Qatar 2022.

Liverpool unveil signing of Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool have officially unveiled the signing of teenage starlet Fabio Carvalho from Fulham. Carvalho impressed last season for Fulham, helping them to secure the Championship title with relative ease.

The 19-year-old's move to Liverpool was first confirmed in May, with the Reds unveiling the Portuguese midfielder this weekend. Carvalho has signed a five-year contract at Anfield and will link up with Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool first team at the start of next week.

The Portuguese forward has signed a five-year contract at Anfield and will report for the first day of pre-season training on Monday. "It's just an amazing feeling to be here at one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest. So, I'm just happy to be here and I can't wait to get started" Carvalho told the club's official website.
