Moving Leeds tributes on 22-year anniversary of Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight’s tragic deaths
Today marked 22 years since Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight were murdered by Galatasaray fans in Istanbul ahead of Leeds’ UEFA Cup semi-final first leg. Whites players, staff and fans gathered at Elland Road earlier to remember the lives of the two men with a fresh plea that they must never be forgotten.
Led by Liam Cooper, the Leeds squad laid flowers and scarves beneath the plaque dedicated to Chris and Kevin and Gareth Senior, who was in Istanbul on that fateful night, gave a moving speech. He re-emphasised the truth of the night by touching on the misinformation that continues to be published on the internet in the succeeding years.

Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney likely to be out for the rest of the season
After many fans started to believe that Arsenal were nailed on to qualify for next season’s Champions League, their hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a massive below last night. The Gunners were taken apart in a 3-0 defeat against London rivals Crystal Palace and the absence of the injured Kieran Tierney was abundantly clear on the left-hand side of the defence.
Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, he will have to continue coping without the Scotsman as he is due to have surgery in the near future which is likely to bring an early end to his season. It means he will be probably miss the clash between Arsenal and Leeds at the Emirates on May 8, a game the hosts will view as a must-win game if they are to realise their Champions League aspirations.
Mohamed Salah wants to renew Liverpool contract
Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool continues to dominate the Premier League back pages. The Egypt forward’s current deal runs until next summer and the Reds are running the risk of losing him for a cut-price if he does not choose to extend it.
There was an offer on the table but it was reportedly some way from Salah’s expectations considering his role in the squad and his status as one of the world’s best players. The Egyptian sports minister has claimed that he instructed the Liverpool star to pursue a career away from Anfield but then insisted that his intentions are very much to stay on Merseyside.
