Here are the latest Premier League headlines on Monday, 16 May 2022.
Leeds dressing room hailed
Former Premier League striker Dion Dublin has praised the ‘character’ in the Leeds United dressing room. The Whites scored their seventh stoppage time goal of the season against Brighton on Sunday to earn a potentially vital point in their fight for survival.
Pascal Struijk’s late header moved them out of the bottom three ahead of the final week of the season, though Burnley do have a game in hand. Speaking on the Premier League weekend review, Dublin claimed that Leeds’ strong dressing room could be important to staying up.
He said: “What I’ve heard is that there’s good personnel in the dressing room. Good character. They never know when they’re beat and that’s really important.”

Eriksen ‘Champions League’ claim
Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen has admitted he would ‘love to play’ in the Champions League again. Eriksen joined the Bees on a six-month contract in January and after an impressive spell at the club, has been linked to several top sides.
The 30-year-old has more than proved his fitness and quality since his move to Brentford following the cardiac arrest he suffered at the EUROs in June. In a recent interview with Viaplay, as reported by Football365, Eriksen admitted he has already received several offers ahead of the summer.
He said: "I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again, I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me."
Guardiola on title
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reiterated the fact that the Premier League title still remains in their hands despite Sunday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham. City moved four points clear of Liverpool with a point at the London Stadium but the Reds can close the gap to just one ahead of the final day with a win at Southampton on Tuesday.
Guardiola’s men came from 2-0 down at half time to earn a draw at the Hammers, which could prove vital at the end of the season. Speaking after the game, Guardiola revealed his pride at knowing a final day win would see them crowned champions.
He said: “We win our game [against Aston Villa] and we are champions: if we don’t, Liverpool will win. It is an incredible privilege to have one game to be champions — it is in our hands.”
