Premier League headlines as former Leeds United defender pulls out of England squad

Here are the latest Premier League headlines for Monday, May 30.

Ben White withdraws from England squad

The 2022/23 season isn’t quite finished for players who have been called up for their respective international squads. For England, they are in Nations League action during June with games against Hungary (twice), Germany and Italy on the agenda.

Gareth Southgate named his 27-man squad last week but might be contemplating a replacement after it was confirmed Ben White wouldn’t be joining up with the squad. The former on-loan Leeds United defender has pulled out of the summer camp with an injury and will continue his rehabilitation at Arsenal as he hopes to be fully fit for the start of next season.

If Southgate opts to call up a replacement for White, Eric Dier seems to be the most popular choice although Tyrone Mings may also be in line for a call-up given his recent England involvement.

French ministers blame fake tickets for Champions League disruption

Kick-off for the Champions League final had to be delayed by 35 minutes after Liverpool supporters were unable to get to their seats inside the Stade de France in time for the start of the match. The fans in question, as well as media in Paris, claimed that the turnstiles had been closed by the police and officials at the stadium and criticised heavy-handed policing.

Earlier today, French ministers sparked more anger by reaffirming their claims that the delays were caused by large scale ticket fraud amongst the Liverpool supporters. Sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera alluded to the lack of issues faced by Real Madrid fans on their way into the other side of the stadium as she piled the blame on the supporters of the Spanish side’s opponents.

Ivan Perisic set for Tottenham move

A number of Premier League clubs have already begun their summer transfer business and Tottenham look set to be the next to announce a new signing. They are in the process of agreeing the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter.

The 33-year-old has been an ever-present for the Italian side in the last few seasons and worked under Antonio Conte previously during the 2020/21 campaign when the pair helped Inter to the Serie A title. He reportedly had his medical at Tottenham’s ‘Hotspur Way’ training ground today.
