Premier League headlines: Antonio Conte says Tottenham need 'miracle' to qualify for Champions League

A round-up of all the latest Premier League headlines on Friday, 1 April.

Antonio Conte claims Spurs need a miracle to reach the top four ahead of Newcastle clash

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte claims Spurs need a "miracle" to qualify for the Champions League ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle. Spurs are only three points behind fourth placed Arsenal and Conte will be hoping to leapfrog their rivals if results go their way.

"It's right to underline that this target is very, very difficult and we aren't the only team that wants to try and do this miracle," Conte said. It's important to have this type of ambition - we have the possibility."

The Spurs boss told Football London: "If you had asked me [before] about our possibility to reach a place in the Champions League, I would say very, very difficult. Now I think we have to try to fight until the end to have the possibility to reach this target. I think to play in the Champions League next season is important for me, important for the players and the fans.

"To play in the CL is completely different to the Europa League and Conference League. It's a different target for the club because you can plan for important things."

Bruno Fernandes signs Manchester United contract extension

Bruno Fernandes has penned a new contract at Old Trafford that will keep him with Manchester United until June 2026. The Portuguese playmaker has scored 49 goals and contributed 39 assists in just 117 games for the Red Devils since arriving from Sporting Lisbon.

Fernandes told manutd.com: "From the moment that I joined Manchester United, I have had a special relationship with the club and our amazing fans. I grew up watching this team, dreaming of getting the chance to play here one day.

“That dream is now a reality and an honour. Even after two years, it still feels amazing to step out at Old Trafford, to hear the fans sing my song and to score in front of the Stretford End. It is a true privilege to wear this shirt and to fight for our incredible club.

“There is so much more that I want to achieve here, and I know that is the same for the rest of the squad and staff. More than anything, we want to give the fans the success that they deserve. We have shared some great moments over the last years, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team.

Newcastle told to sign 'future England number one'

Padd Kenny has told Newcastle to forget signing Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan, after reports surfaced last week. The former Premier League shot stopper believes the Magpies should be going all out to sign Manchester United stopper Dean Henderson.

Kenny told Football Insider: "You would be mad to sign Kepa in my opinion. He came with a big price tag but he’s never really shown why he is worth it.

“I lost all respect for him when he wouldn’t come off in the League Cup final. That was bang out of order. Chelsea spent all this money on him then they have had to go and buy another goalkeeper.

“Henderson is the one, for me. He’s stuck behind De Gea for the time being and what a prospect Newcastle is now. Henderson has his whole career ahead of him and I’m sure a move up to Newcastle would interest him. He’s a future England number one so for me it would be a great move.”
