Premier League headlines: Advantage Man City in title race after Watford thrashing

A look at the latest Premier League headlines on April 23.

Newcastle closing in on top-half finish with Norwich staring relegation in the face

Newcastle United took another step towards a top-half finish with a resounding win over Norwich City thanks to a brace from Joelinton and a delightful chip from Bruno Guimaraes. The Magpies moved up to ninth in the Premier League table, a remarkable achievement from Eddie Howe's side.

As for Norwich, they're now left staring relegation square in the face and are still eight points adrift of safety. The Canaries have played two more games than Everton and one more than Burnley who are set to host Wolves at Turf Moor tomorrow.

Wins for either side would leave the remainder of the season looking bleak for Dean Smith's side. They have just five games to somehow overhaul that deficit or they're set for a return the Championship.

Manchester City keep foot on the gas in title race

Manchester City kept up the pressure on rivals Liverpool to move four points clear of the Reds ahead of their Merseyside derby tomorrow. Pep Guardiola's side thumped Watford 5-1 to keep the pressure on Jurgen Klopp's side.

If Liverpool do win tomorrow against their near neighbours, they gap will once again be reduced to just one point with both sides having five games of the season still to play.

Four goals from Gabriel Jesus made light work of Roy Hodgson's side, who look set for an instant return to the Championship.
