An apparent foul on Diogo Jota, which came moments before Southampton took the lead against Liverpool, failed to go to a VAR review because it did not meet the necessary criteria.
That's according to journalist Chris Williams, who shared an update from the Premier League Match Centre on social media during Tuesday's evening's crucial Premier League encounter.
The incident occurred in the 13th minute when Reds forward Jota attempted to receive a pass into feet but appeared to be chopped down by Lyanco. With no foul given by referee Martin Atkinson, Southampton broke away down the opposite end of the field and scored when Nathan Redmond cut inside and arrowed the ball home with the help of a deflection off James Milner.

Supporters expecting to see that goal chalked off by a VAR on-field review were left miffed after it was simply allowed to stand. But an explanation has been offered up.
Williams tweeted: "Premier League Match Centre: The criteria was not met for a clear and obvious review, although it looks to be a foul. The (VAR) protocol is quite specific, the threshold is clear and obvious, VAR is not there to re-referee all minute situations."
Despite the goal being allowed to stand, Liverpool drew level less than a quarter of an hour later when Takumi Minamino fired the ball home from an acute angle. And in the second half, an unorthodox header from Joel Matip gave the Reds a vital 2-1 victory.
