Premier League competition emerges for Leeds United-linked midfielder ahead of Wembley showpiece

Leeds United are set to face competition from a host of Premier League sides in the race for Manchester United midfielder James Garner's signature. Garner has starred on-loan for Nottingham Forest in the Championship this season, helping Steve Cooper's side to reach the play-off final where they will face Huddersfield Town for a spot in the Premier League.

The Daily Mirror reports that Leicester City are just one of the Premier League sides keeping tabs on Garner following his superb season. Both Leeds and Southampton are also said to be interested in signing the 21-year-old. Whether that is on-loan or as a permanent transfer remains to be seen.

Should Nottingham Forest earn promotion to the Premier League, they will almost certainly be in pole position to sign up Garner for another season on loan. Steve Cooper has worked wonders at the City Ground this season and could help Garner further develop. Under Cooper, Garner has scored four goals and registered eight assists during his spell at Forest.

However, with Manchester United set to take part in the Europa League next season, incoming boss Erik Ten Haag could be set to give youngsters like Garner minutes in the competition. Given Garner's high up-side, it seems unlikely Ten Haag and co would cash in on the 21-year-old midfielder, making a loan more likely.

Leeds will almost certainly face stiff competition if they want to sign Garner, but should Forest fail to get promoted, their chances of signing the midfielder on-loan would likely increase.

The Whites have also been linked with Huddersfield Town's Lewis O'Brien, who is set to face off against Garner in this afternoon's Championship play-off final.
