According to reports, Manchester City are interested in Chelsea’s left-back Ben Chilwell. The 26-year-old has been faced with a lot of injury problems in recent times and returned against Fulham last week for his first game since a hamstring injury forced him out of action in November.
He has been an integral part of the Chelsea team with his all-round abilities helping to beat City to the Champions League title in 2021. Marc Cucurella has been filling the left back sport regularly with Chilwell out. However, once the England international is ready to start, he is expected to play in the first eleven as the Spaniard has not looked great in the left-back role.
City’s interest in signing Ben Chilwell comes after Joao Cancelo left on loan to Bayern Munich on deadline day. The Portuguese left the team in search of playing time and amidst uncertainty over Cancelo's future, Pep Guardiola will look at other options available in the market.

It's not the first time that City have expressed their interest on Chilwell. While he was still at Leicester, the England international was reported to be on Guardiola’s radar, but Chilwell opted to move to Chelsea in 2020.
Chilwell still has time left on his five-year contract and looks happy at Stamford Bridge, and when at full fitness the 26-year-old has proven himself to be the best left back at the club. Even when competing with Marcus Alonso, Chilwell always managed to find a spot during the big games as he was a great defender and also helped out the offence by proving to be an attacking option.
He would be a great addition on the City team, should Cancelo not return in the summer. The team have a young option in Rico Lewis, but they will certainly look to add more depth as it is a key position in the way City carry forward their game.
City are also said to be interested in Fulham player Antonee Robinson. He's reportedly worth £35million and it too could be a deal City explore in the summer. However, Chilwell's Champions League and England experience would give him the edge.
City are currently under on and off the field after being accused by Premier League of a string of financial rule breaches. A final verdict on the situation could be far in the future, but it could still prove to be an immediate factor in how the club goes ahead with their planning for the summer.
But if they are to get the green light and discuss a potential left back option, Chilwell could be the right man for them.
