Premier League announcement points to first Mauricio Pochettino transfer in huge Chelsea overhaul

With the summer transfer window around the corner, plenty of teams are preparing for a busy few months as clubs are free to begin their business of player trading once again. For Chelsea, it could be yet another crucial market to make some moves, even more so in the wake of a dismal season that will see them finish in mid-table.

The summer is likely to see a wave of change at the club once again with a new head coach appointment close as football.london understands that a deal has been agreed with Mauricio Pochettino to take the role. The Argentinian coach has a huge task in overhauling the dressing room to turn results around.

One of the key issues is balance after an influx of talent in the past two windows that has left three managers mixing and matching the team in the space of just one campaign. "Is there an issue with confidence? Yeah. Is there an issue with the balance of the squad? Maybe, yeah," interim boss Frank Lampard admitted last month.

Pochettino will have a full pre-season to judge the changes he needs to make, with fans eagerly anticipating changes that will give them hope of a turnaround. Fans may have got a slight hint as to the type of player that may be too after a recent announcement from the Premier League.

That announcement being that the transfer window will open on Wednesday, June 14, though the international window won't open until after. That means any of the first deals Pochettino is likely to deal with will have to be domestic transfers, so those that are in the English divisions.

In terms of exits it could mean the likes of Mason Mount leaving to join Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal after interest has been shown. While incomings have seen links to Christopher Nkunku or Victor Osimhen, if early signings are required then someone such as Harry Kane may be a better fit for the time frame.

It remains to be seen which signings the manager will want to make, with the need to make some exits along the way too, but it's clear that some changes are required quickly to get a settled team for the season ahead.
