Premier League announce rule change on fans behaviour which affects Liverpool and Everton

Premier League clubs voted unanimously today to introduce a minimum-length ban for fans involved in antisocial or criminal behaviour at football grounds.

A Premier League statement read: “At a Premier League Shareholders’ Meeting today, clubs unanimously agreed to introduce minimum-length bans for supporters who take part in anti-social and criminal behaviours at League stadiums.

“Fans caught carrying or activating pyrotechnics or smoke bombs, or entering the pitch without permission, will receive an automatic club ban with a minimum term of one year.

“These bans could also be extended to accompanying parents or guardians of children who take part in such activities.

“This policy is effective immediately and the ban is applicable to both home and away matches.”

Last season saw several incidences of fan disorder within and around grounds in the Premier League and English Football League. Everton fans came under scrutiny after a minority of fans set off blue smoke bombs inside Goodison Park and entered the pitch following their 3-2 win against Crystal Palace to secure safety.

Pitch invasions at points lead to on-pitch violence between fans and club staff, with one Nottingham Forest season-ticket holder jailed for six months after headbutting Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp in May.
