John Brooks has been appointed to referee Newcastle United's clash against Brentford at St James' Park this weekend. Brooks was promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and has officiated across England's top five divisions.
He has refereed seven Premier League games in total, including three top-flight games this term. Brooks refereed Brentford nine times in the Championship and was also VAR official of Newcastle's 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in 2020.
Ian Hussin and Matthew Wilkes are his assistants, while Craig Pawson will act as fourth official. Paul Tierney has been appointed as the VAR official and will be assisted by Scott Ledger.
Tierney, who last officiated Newcastle when he refereed their 1-1 draw against Watford in January, will also be taking charge of Crystal Palace's clash against Leeds on Sunday.

Newcastle have collected three wins from their last five meetings with Brentford (D1, L1), although they drew 3-3 when the Bees visited St James' Park last term.
The Magpies twice trailed against Brentford before Allan Saint-Maximim's 75th minute equaliser rescued a point for Newcastle.
Brentford are 10th in the Premier League and have amassed 10 points from their opening eight games. However, Thomas Frank's charges are yet to register a single win on the road this term - drawing three and losing one of their four away fixtures in the Premier League.
