Premier League 3pm TV blackout broken after King Charles Coronation but not for Chelsea or Spurs

After King Charles' Coronoation, Premier League football will return on Saturday with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur playing AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.

Those games are not being broadcast domestically because are scheduled for a 3pm start on Saturday afternoon, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa. Liverpool vs Brentford was moved for television broadcast and is kicking off at 5.30pm as a result.

However, Manchester City's game against Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium, which also kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, is being shown on Sky Sports in the UK. That is because the match was shifted from Saturday to Sunday for broadcast before City's participation in the Champions League semi-finals next week.

The game has now been moved back to the Saturday and is an exception to the blackout rule as a result. It is the first time a Premier League game has been broadcast during the blackout period apart from during the coronavirus lockdown, when fans could not attend matches.

"With Manchester City visiting Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday 9 May, their home match with Leeds United has moved from Sunday 7 May to 15:00 BST on Saturday 6 May," a Premier League statement read last month. "The match will remain live on Sky Sports in the UK, subject to further consultation with relevant stakeholders regarding Article 48.

"The usual Saturday 12:30 BST UK live broadcast slot has been avoided so as not to clash with the King’s Coronation. "A later kick-off is not possible due to police resourcing."

The match is being broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League with coverage kicking off at 2pm on the satellite broadcaster's channels. Sky Sports can be accessed through Sky TV and the broadcaster's streaming service Now TV as well as on BT TV and Virgin Media.
