Premier League 2023-24 key dates revealed with January break confirmed

The 2023/2024 Premier League calendar has been revealed - with Nottingham Forest sure to be keeping an eye on key dates.

Steve Cooper's side currently sit bottom of the table, but recent performances have undoubtedly strengthened the Reds' survival credentials. Their 1-0 win against Champions League finalists Liverpool at the City Ground was a particular highlight.

And the newly-announced dates will impact Forest if they can mount a successful battle against relegation.

With Covid-19 and this winter's FIFA World Cup in Qatar having severely disrupted the schedule of recent domestic seasons, the 2023/24 Premier League campaign will represent a return to what many would deem as normality.

It will commence on Saturday, August 12, 2023, before drawing to a close on Sunday, May 19, 2024, and all matches will kick-off simultaneously as usual.

One change that fans will notice, however, is the addition of a winter break between January 13 and January 20, as top-flight officials appear to have taken inspiration from fellow European leagues.

Furthermore, no two rounds of matches across the Christmas and New Year period will take place within 48 hours of each other in a bid to avoid severe fixture congestion.

A statement released by the Premier League, reads: "The season will consist of 34 weekends, three midweek rounds and one Bank Holiday match round.

"The start date of Saturday 12 August allows 76 clear days from the end of 2022/2023 season.

"With the Premier League finishing on 19 May 2024, it will also allow players rest between the end of the season and the international fixtures in June."
