An unborn baby was found dumped in a field on Thursday afternoon, as police attempt to track down the lifeless child’s mother.
Police were called at about 3.50pm on Thursday to reports of a human foetus being found on Canford Heath in Poole, Dorset.
Officers launched a search for the mother over concerns for her welfare.
Any potential witnesses have been urged to contact detectives investigating the sad case.
Chief Inspector Gavin House of Dorset Police said: “This is a very sad discovery and our absolute priority now is to locate the mother of the child to ensure she receives the appropriate care.
“I would also ask anyone who witnessed anything in the area of Canford Heath on Thursday 2 March 2023, or from anyone with any information to help us find and support the mother.”
Dr Paul Johnson Chief Medical Officer with NHS Dorset added: “I am appealing directly to her to please contact medical services or the police as soon as possible so that we can ensure she is safe.
“I would also appeal to anyone who may have concerns about a family member, loved one, or friend to make contact.”

The sad discovery has led to an outpouring of grief from several people on social media.
One said: “I feel sorry for mum having to go through this ordeal on her own and not knowing there were people to support and help her in this situation as it isn’t uncommon.
“I also feel for the person who found and reported to the police!
“Both are very difficult things to go through. I hope mum gets the help and support she deserves.”
Another said:” So sad, but the poor mother must come forward as she needs medical attention.”
Another added: “God bless I do hope this mum comes forward to get the help she needs.”
