Pregnant Glasgow teacher found dead after colleagues raised concerns when 'she didn't show up for work'

A Glasgow teacher failed to turn up to work before being found dead at her home in Govan after colleagues raised the alarm on Tuesday, April 25.

Pregnant Marelle Sturrock, a teacher at Sandwood Primary School, did not answer the door when her friends went to the 35-year-old's house yesterday morning.

The police were called to Jura Street at around 8.40am where Marelle was found dead inside, the Record reports.

Neighbour Alex Collie told the Record his wife saw the expectant mum's worried colleagues at her house.

He said: “My wife walked past when they were at the house. They were knocking on the door and seemed worried. I think concern was raised when she didn’t show up for work.

"A few hours later we saw the police here. We got the shock of our life when we heard what had happened to Marelle. It’s tragic. I can’t believe it."

It's understood a letter has been sent to staff and parents of pupils at Sandwood Primary School after the popular teacher's tragic passing.

Detectives searching for a missing person over eight miles away at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, said their presence is "linked" to the death of Marelle.

Cops were seen swarming the woodland yesterday morning, with dog units and a helicopter in attendance. Images from the scene show a large section close to an entrance of the park taped off as the search operation continues for a second day.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “We were made aware of concern for a woman at a property on Jura Street in Glasgow shortly after 8.40am on Tuesday, April 25. Officers attended and the body of a 35-year-old woman was found within.
