Prediction markets were right on the election. What do they have to say about the Super Bowl?

  • Prediction market users are sounding off on who they think will win the Super Bowl. And it’s not looking good for the Eagles.

Prediction markets proved remarkably accurate in foretelling the results of the 2024 election. Can they keep that streak alive for Super Bowl LIX?

Millions of dollars are being bet on prediction markets about the Big Game—and if you’re an Eagles fan, you’re probably not going to like the paragraphs to come.

We looked at the three top prediction markets to see what they had to say about this year’s Super Bowl. One, PredictIt, is ignoring the game altogether, keeping its focus tight on political matters. Polymarket and Kalshi, however, are more than happy to expand into the sporting world.

At Polymarket, just under 53% of betters are putting their money on Kansas City. A $10 bet on the team will return $18.90, where as betting that same amount on Philadelphia will earn you $21.14 should the Eagles triumph.

Kalshi bettors are basically of the same mind as Polymarket ones. Some 52% are saying the Chiefs will win. That $10 bet will fetch you $20 if Andy Reid and company win Sunday, whereas you’ll pocket $21 if the Eagles win.

Prediction markets on sports are a little different than politics, though, as the outcome is entirely dependent on the players on the field. So what are other prediction experts saying about the game?

Oddsmakers are giving the nod to the Chiefs as well. BetMGM is giving slight odds to Kansas City, but, like prediction markets, seems to think it will be close. The spread is just 1.5 points. Experts at ESPN, Sporting News, and the Athletic are all leaning toward the Chiefs too.

One Kansas City television station even spoke with a local psychic to see what the stars were predicting. The Chiefs won again, according to the cards, but the psychic said the game will be decided in the final minute, with Kansas City winning by just one or two points.
