Prediction and betting odds for MSU Basketball vs. Samford on Tuesday

Michigan State basketball will look to pick up one more non-conference victory before heading to Maui next week.

The Spartans host Samford on Tuesday night from the Breslin Center. This will be the final game the Spartans play before heading to the Maui Invitational that tips off on Monday of next week.

Michigan State comes into this matchup with a 3-1 record overall following a narrow victory over Bowling Green on Saturday. The Spartans’ lone loss of the year was against No. 1 Kansas last Tuesday.

Samford comes into this matchup with a 4-1 record on the year. The Bulldogs were picked to win the Southern Conference in the preseason poll, and reached the NCAA Tournament last season — where they neared upset Kansas in the first round.

Michigan State vs. Samford prediction, pick

Michigan State has gotten off to poor starts in each of its non-conference games against mid-major competition so I’m going to expect the same thing here. The difference, though, is that Samford is a true NCAA Tournament-caliber team. I predict the Spartans will win this game, but don’t be surprised if the Bulldogs are in until the final minutes of the game with a strong chance at pulling the upset.

Prediction: Michigan State 83, Samford 72
