Sunderland now have eight games left to ensure they remain in the League One promotion picture. Alex Neil has managed to end their run of disappointing results, with the Black Cats charge now heading in the right direction.
But there remain some huge games to come before the end of the season. The top two automatic places are likely out of Sunderland's reach - although you never know - with Rotherham and Wigan looking in good shape to seal first and second.
However, the Black Cats remain play-off contenders, with their fate in their own hands in the final months of the season. The Wearsiders have some tough games left on their schedule - notably against league leaders Rotherham and promotion rivals Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle.

There are some more 'winnable' games on the horizon, not that you will catch Neil saying as much. Sunderland have dropped too many points in games they 'should' win, but will go into matches against the likes of Morecambe, Cambridge, Gillingham and Shrewsbury as firm favourites.
