Roll, bounce, and blast. That's the three basic things you'll need to remember for SPHEROCIOUS. This upcoming title from Iwa Interactive is coming to Steam on August 8.
The precision platformer is inspired by other games in the same genre. However for this game, the focus is on the mechanics which is on efficient movement and careful planning. The main objective for each level is for players to reach the power gem as quickly as they can. However, they'll need to keep a close eye on their stamina along with making sure to supply their robotic assistant with power.
Saving the Amazon
The game is set in the heart of the Amazon jungle where a unique ecosystem lies under its canopy. This has drawn the likes of explorers, researchers, and even corporations, to the area with each one having their own reasons. The story focuses on a young Japanese Brazilian biologist named Omi Aoki. As soon as Omi arrives to the rainforest, she discovers that a logging company is plotting something. To reclaim the rainforest, she'll need the help of the strange sloth called Shinobu and other native creatures.
As Omi goes deeper into these untouched landscapes, she'll need to go against the corrupted AI driven machines. The good news is that she has a robotic assistant to help her.
Gameplay Mechanics
Like with most platformers, the core gameplay mechanics are going to be easy to learn but difficult to master. These include:
- The core gameplay mechanics are easy to learn, hard to master:
- Get from the start of the stage to the power gem as quickly as possible.
- Time moves strategically since it's important to manage stamina.
- Each movement like running, jumping, rolling/inflating, gliding, and diving, to name a few, uses some stamina though it recharges with time.
- The assistant POD robot can launch players through the air and water or boost them on the ground.
- Find the most efficient way to reach the power game by alternating in using movement abilities with what the robot can do.
- For the more daring ones and expert gamers, a collectable ancient scroll is precariously placed in each stage.
