Preacher blasted for dressing 'too sexy' at church in searing anonymous letter

A preacher was left mortified after a member of his congregation berated him for dressing 'too sexy' at church in a searing letter.

The letter, which was delivered to Embrace Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, US, even went as far as calling Adam Weber 'disgusting' and 'morally wrong' for his outfit choice - leaving him baffled.

The handwritten note insisted that the 40-year-old dress 'more conservatively' because he is a 'representative of Jesus Christ', imploring Adam to 'use common sense' before he preached wearing skinny jeans again.

Adam has since admitted that he only owns three pairs of jeans, and he believes the person may have attacked him due to a previous bad experience with a preacher.

Adam said he was initially taken aback and upset by the bizarre outburst, but later said he 'grieved' for the letter writer, and shared it online to help the anonymous letter writer feel the 'grace and love' of God.

His friends have joked he should take the criticism as a compliment, however.

Adam, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, US, said: "I get letters and messages all the time, and 99 percent of them are wonderful and encouraging.

"I get letters like this a few times a year. Sometimes I'll get where the person is coming from but when I started reading this, I wasn't sure if it was one of my buddies joking with me or something.

"I laughed when the person wrote 'since when do men wear skinny jeans?' I was wondering if they were calling me out because skinny jeans are no longer in style.

"I have about three different pairs of jeans and they're all skinny jeans, my attire is very limited.

"When I finished reading it, I became sad and heartbroken for the person who had written it.

"Whenever I think thoughts like those in this letter, I'm usually not in a great place. So I grieve for this person."

Adam said he wishes he could've connected with the person as there was 'pain' behind it.

The pastor conceded that Christians can sometimes place too much importance on how a person dresses for church - and that instead, the focus should be on what's in their hearts.

Adam said that church should be a place where you feel comfortable, continuing: "I always say, church is where you should dress down. It's where you should be able to take off the masks and the fake smiles.

"We should come holding our brokenness, I'm so grateful that God meets us in that place.

"We shouldn't dress down disrespectfully, but we shouldn't put on any fronts or masks for God.

"Oftentimes Christians are great at following rules, but their hearts look nothing like Jesus."

Adam shared the letter online, hoping to encourage the letter writer to reach out, and his parishioners flooded the comments section with supportive messages.

One wrote: "I'm only laughing at this because it is ridiculous! I love your sense of style. I always mention how cool your kicks are! You keep being you, Pastor."

Another commented: "Hate to say it, but these are the Christians that turn people away from the church. I've done it myself in years past. Unbelievable."

A fellow supporter wrote: "I have always thought the way you dress while on stage makes you feel more relatable to us."

"I always laugh at anonymous letters. They want to give their all high and mighty opinion but not let the person know who sent it", another wrote.
