'Pre-season Pirlo' - Manchester United fans split on latest Andreas Pereira reports

It's incredible to think that Andreas Pereira has been on Manchester United's books for over a decade now. And after another loan spell away from the club, it seems he'll soon be on his way back to Old Trafford.

His most recent loan spell was at Flamengo, where he impressed playing as a deeper midfielder dictating the tempo of the game. And his qualities in said role could be of use to Erik ten Hag next season when he'll need players who are able to control the game.

Pereira has made 75 appearances for the United first team, scoring four goals in the process - half of which came in the 2019/20 season. But since he made his debut, he has also spent four seasons away on loan.

He's had temporary moves to Granada, Valencia, Lazio and Flamengo, with all four clubs treated to glimpses of his talent. But, according to Rob Dawson, Ten Hag could give Pereira a chance to impress in pre-season before making a decision on whether he has a future at Old Trafford.

Fans have questioned exactly where Pereira fits into the current squad. United already have Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek and the Manchester Evenings News understands Ten Hag wants to bring Frenkie de Jong to Manchester this summer along with potentially one more midfielder.

Fred and Scott McTominay are there to offer depth, so does that make Pereira fifth or sixth choice? If United can get a fee for the player, with a number of clubs in Europe interested, it seems like that would be the preferable option and then the club can invest the money elsewhere.

Pereira had looked to be set to join Flamengo permanently, though it seems he's now destined to return to Manchester. Fans have had their say on his return on social media. Here's a selection of responses from Twitter:
