'Prayers answered' - Man United fans react to reports of Erik ten Hag plan for Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United supporters have been reacting to reports that Erik ten Hag intends to show Cristiano Ronaldo the Old Trafford exit door.

The Ajax boss is close to signing a deal to become the club’s next boss ahead of a squad revamp this summer. A whole host of players are expected to leave at the end of the season, with Ronaldo potentially one of those set to depart.

The Daily Star report that the Portugal international, who is United’s top scorer this season with 18 goals, will be given the green light to leave by Ten Hag. Ronaldo's future at the club has been a constant source of speculation with United set to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The report claims that Ronaldo met with agent Jorge Mendes last month to assess his options for next season. Ten Hag is supposedly not keen on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as he doesn’t fit into the style of play he plans to implement should he be appointed at United.

Fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter. Some are unsure whether it would be wise for Ten Hag to make such a bold move.

@Faxmerchant23: Ronaldo should stay at United

@PremCr77: Has Erik Ten Hag lost his mind?

@BeanerVert: It’s not April fools anymore right?

However, the majority of supporters said they would back the decision if it materialises.

@sytroxcs: It’s the best for both the club and player.

@KBlancos9: He should go back to Sporting. Fairytale ending.

@Maintoha: My prayers have finally been answered.

@Utdawi: Better be true. Better for him and us that he goes. We'll always have that day he was announced and the Newcastle game.

@Qua_mey_: It was coming. The era of new things begins.
