Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, who is the leader of the coalition-core Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), has left open the option of a partnership with the opposition-core Pheu Thai Party after the general election.

At Government House on Tuesday, Gen Prawit would not comment when asked about Pheu Thai's move in Udon Thani on Sunday to introduce Paetongtarn Shinawatra, a daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, as "Head of the Pheu Thai Family".

Asked if this would have any impact on PPRP, Gen Prawit said: "It is a matter for the Pheu Thai Party. Everything depends on the election. Let's talk about it after the election."

Asked to comment on Pheu Thai's forecast of a landslide victory at the general election, Gen Prawit said he was not worried. "Let the landslide happen first," he said.

He would not comment when asked if PPRP would change its strategy now Pheu Thai was promoting members of the younger generation.

Asked if PPRP and Pheu Thai could join forces in the future, Gen Prawit did not rule it out.

"Let's wait until after the election," he said.
