Pras FPL Gameweek 13 Tips: Which players to keep, sell, and hold

Pras FPL is back with another round of Fantasy Premier League tips – this week centred around the players to buy, hold, sell, and avoid ahead of Gameweek 13.

I’m Pras, and welcome to my weekly series for SportsCasting, where I will be providing my thoughts on my FPL Gameweek 13 tips. For context, over the last 12 seasons of FPL, I have achieved four top 10k finishes, including two top 5k finishes. My seasonal average over the last seven seasons is around 21k.

Every week, I’ll be giving you advice on whether to buy/hold or sell the key defenders, midfielders, and attackers in FPL. As a fixtures guy, my advice will always have a lens of immediate fixtures but also long-term viability and implications.

FPL Gameweek 13 Tips

Defenders

Buy – Jurrien Timber looks to have fit into the right-back slot well, vacated by Ben White’s injury. As mentioned in last week’s article, there is solidity at the back again, and fixtures long-term are great. Timber had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside against Forest in Gameweek 12, and he provided a wonderful assist for Martinelli to tap in the early opener against Sporting, emphasising his genuine attacking threat.

Hold – Pedro Porro was the second-highest-scoring defender in Gameweek 12 and now has back-to-back attacking returns in the last two Gameweeks. Spurs may be weaker without Vicario, but Porro’s attacking threat and some set-pieces mean he’s a hold for now, at least for this home fixture against Fulham.

Sell/Avoid – Despite two clean sheets on the bounce, I think Everton’s time is up in terms of defensive ownership. Mykolenko and, to a lesser extent, Pickford are sells. Given the price point, it isn’t urgent. But looking at the next few fixtures, I don’t see many weeks you could confidently play them.

Midfielders

Buy – Bukayo Saka looks to be thriving again with the return of Odegaard. He had three shots against Sporting midweek, the most of any teammate (Havertz had two). He also weighed in with an xG of 0.89 and an xA of 0.95. He looks an excellent long-term buy, especially for teams that are cash rich from the Haaland sale.

Hold – Spurs midfielders Son and Johnson are good holds this week. They remain the most attacking team in the league in terms of actual goals scored as well as xG. A home game against Fulham isn’t the easiest, but I think there are goals there, and they are a decent hold this week.

Sell/Avoid – There are a lot of great midfielders about in the game – all with a high goal share, very good minutes, and many even on penalties. Midfielders that are not nailed for start or minutes risk or out of form are just not worth it in this congested period. Foden, Diaz, Martinelli, Trossard, and Neto all fall in this category for me.

Forwards

Buy – Joao Pedro. When a player comes back from injury into an attacking team that is embarking on the best fixtures in the medium term – it’s a tick. When that player is right back in form with 2 goals and two assists in ~100 minutes since his return, that’s a double tick. Buy Joao Pedro. Soon.

Hold – Wissa and Wood are two popular picks that have done well for FPL managers recently. They both have excellent fixtures—LEI (H) and IPS (H), respectively—this week, but after this, the party comes to an end. I would therefore suggest holding at least this week and re-assessing the landscape next gameweek.

Sell/Avoid – Raul Jimenez has disappointed his owners quite a bit. That glaring miss 3 years from goal was the final nail for many. Given the number of options available and Fulham playing Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea in 4 of the next 6, I think its time to let go of the Mexican soon.
