Praise for staff and volunteers as homeless charity Framework hosts Christmas Day meal in Nottingham

Vital work by volunteers and staff at a Nottingham homeless charity is more essential than ever on Christmas Day. And one Nottingham chef has spent the at Framework's London Road facility preparing a festive feast for those who use the vital service at the homeless shelter.

Mark Robinson, who works at Lakeside restaurant near Arnold, prepared the first sitting for Christmas dinner at the shelter for 12pm and a second sitting at 1pm. Homeless men and women from across the city were given a warm meal and Festive cheer at the Christmas Day dinner organised by Framework.

Dorota Staniak, who is the service manager at Framework's London Road accommodation service, explained how 2022 has been a difficult year due to the cost of living crisis following the pandemic.

Dorota, who was named manager of the year for her work with the team since starting the role in March 2022, said it is important to "show people we care about them" and act with "respect".

Aaron Landa, 32, of Nottingham, and his family donate to the Framework London Road site regularly and were at the site on Christmas Day. Aaron said: we just know that people need food and things like that and we like to support them, it’s a family thing we do. We do once a month every single month and then we on Christmas Day we do an extra special one. It’s my mum, Cita Kaur, who does the donations each month."

Dorota added: "They make a massive difference, the residents really appreciate it all."

One service user, Akbar, has been at the London Road site for two months, helped out with the Christmas decorations. He said: “Everything is good. It’s a lot better than before where I was before, and I’m really happy I’m here. The staff are lovely and kind and the other residents as well.”
