A big gain for the Liberal Democrats meant they finished with 24 council seats making them the biggest party on the council. The Lib Dems won 13 seats when Wales last went to the polls in 2017 but gained 11 in this year's election. However, with 68 seats available, it wasn't enough to take a majority.
This sizeable gain did not come at the expense of the Tories however - who instead gained a seat to push them up to 14 - but rather the independent councillors who have dominated the council since 2017. After winning 30 seats at the last election, they're down to 17. Among them is Claire Mills, formerly the only councillor for Abolish the Assembly.
Meanwhile, Labour are up one to nine, while Plaid Cymru stay on three and the Green Party remain on one. The full results can be found below.
The result in 2017
In 2017, the people of Powys elected 30 independent councillors, independents did however lose 18 seats at that election. They were mainly picked up by the Conservatives but Lib Dems, Labour, Plaid and the Green Party all gained too.

However, since the election the Green Party councillor, Emily Durrant, who became Wales' first ever Green Party councillor has joined Plaid Cymru, and Claire Mills defected from the Conservatives to Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party.
