Powerful aerial show exploring motherhood and mental health is coming to Trafford

A fast paced and powerful aerial show exploring motherhood and mental health and touching on taboo topics like post natal depression is coming to Arts Venue Waterside in Sale.

Mother Tree is an 80-minute show about women and the struggles, guilt, and difficult maternal mental health patterns that motherhood comes with.

This highly physical piece combining theatre, aerial silk, music and spoken word is written and performed by RoguePlay Theatre’s Artistic Director Kim Wildborne. Kim is a circus and physical theatre director and performer and recently performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games watched by a global audience of billions.

Mother Tree is based on Kim’s own personal journey through motherhood. Kim said “During my sleepless nights, I kept a diary. A series of poetic scribblings. The show came from those very personal writings.

"Post-natal depression is not spoken about. Women get frightened to say anything in case it gets taken the wrong way and nobody tells you how hard it will be until it happens. For all these reasons, I wrote this show. But it isn’t just about all the difficult stuff. It counterbalances that with the beauty of having children and the amazing life experiences it brings.”

Kim says the show has deep spiritual undertones influenced by the work of Suzanne Simard, the world’s leading forest ecologist. Kim says she "realised how similar this plurality is to the communication systems and growth patterns of forests" and discovered how as a mother she was interconnected with nature more than she ever realised.

The performance promises to take audiences through an emotional, powerful physical performance and be a conduit for talking. Mother Tree visits Waterside, in Sale, Trafford for just two performances on: Friday 16 September at 2pm & 7.30pm. Tickets £14 / £7 concessions. For information visit here.
