Power cut leaves area of Greater Manchester with no water as emergency bottle stations are set up

Some areas of Greater Manchester have been left without water tonight due to a power cut, United Utilities say. Bottled water stations have been set up for people to collect free bottled water while there is disruption.

United Utilities say the issue was first reported just after 6pm with the cut causing 'technical issues' at a local water treatment works. Therefore some customers in Stockport and Hazel Grove are without running water.

The bottled water stations, at Hazel Grove Park and Ride and High Lane Park, will be open until 10pm tonight and reopen at 8am tomorrow for those needing water supplies. United Utilities say they are doing 'all they can' to get water supplies running in these areas again.

A United Utilities spokesman said: "Due to a power cut, we have experienced some technical issues at one of our local water treatment works. We are working hard to resolve the issue but it does mean that some customers in parts of Stockport and Hazel Grove may find they have no water.

"Due to the likely disruption to water services, two bottled water stations have been set up for customers to collect free bottled water supplies. These will be open from 6pm this evening (Friday 11 November) until 10pm and from 8am tomorrow morning.

"These bottled water stations will remain in place as long as is needed while we resolve this issue. We know how disruptive this will be, please be assured we are doing all we can to get water supplies back to normal just as soon as we can."

The bottled water stations are located at:

  • Hazel Grove Park & Ride, Macclesfield Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport SK7 6BF (please use the Dunkeld Road entrance)
  • High Lane Park, off Windlehurst Road, High Lane, Stockport SK6 8AE
