Poundland to slash prices to just 1p as it plans to open more stores

Poundland has announced that plans to slash prices across more than 1,000 products in store - with some selling for as little as 1p during the week.

The budget high-street retailer will cut back most prices back to the iconic £1 after it was criticised for selling items above the advertised selling point.

The discounted store will also begin to sell certain items for as little as just a penny every single Wednesday on its website, reports The Manchester Evening News.

Poundland has also vowed to roll back the prices on key household items in stores as part of its "Value Heroes" campaign, which will see staples such as washing up liquid reduced back to £1.

The new price cuts has seen a range of more than 1,500 items items across DIY, gardening, kitchenware, homeware and stationery reduced in price.

Speaking about Value Heroes, Poundland's website reads: "We know it’s getting more and more expensive to live right now, and here at Poundshop.com we want to help.

"That’s why we’ve put together our Value Heroes, a range of £1 household staples you know, love and need. We’re committed to keeping your favourites affordable - and your life on track – so you can beat inflation and get the products you need without breaking the bank."

It comes just after the retailer announced plans to open 15 new stores across the UK, including two new stores in Scotland, following a rise in customers who are looking for low prices amidst the rising cost of living.

The rise in customers has seen the retailer branch out into fresh groceries, frozen food and fashion after they seen a shift in customers shopping behaviour.
