Poundland is opening two new convenience stores this summer - is one near you?

Poundland is opening two more smaller “local” stores as it extends a trial programme across the UK.

The discounter will open the doors to new convenience shops in Clapham, London and Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, this summer.

Items you’ll find in stores include groceries, snacks and household products, as well as health and beauty items, toys, stationery and homeware products.

Poundland previously told The Mirror that its “local” branches will include a greater range of fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen food, and bread and morning goods.

Beer, wines and spirits will be available as well, along with vaping products, lottery tickets and scratch cards.

Customers will also be able to buy chilled and frozen food, hot pies and pastries, nappies and formula milk.

Poundland first launched its new “local” format in May 2021. It now has four convenience stores across Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.

At the time of its launch, Poundland said its convenience store chains will differ from traditional smaller stores in that its prices won't be more expensive.

Poundland says it is actively looking for other suitable locations particularly inside the M25. Each “local” store typically employs around 12 members of staff.

The next Poundland Local store to open will be its first in London. It opens on Saturday, July 2, at Unit 4B, the Junction Centre, St John’s Hill, Clapham Junction, London SW11 1RU.

The new Clapham Junction store will be its first at a high traffic transport hub and will be designed so customers can check-out quickly and easily.

That will be followed this summer by the first Poundland Local store in the West Midlands, at 37 Boldmere Road, Sutton Coldfield B73 5UY.

Poundland transformation and retail director, Austin Cooke, said: “Each of the new stores will have a range of items tailored to suit the needs of customers in each neighbourhood, whether they live or work locally.

“In the current economic climate, people are carefully watching how much they spend, and we want them to know that convenience shopping does not have to mean they compromise on value for money.”

Poundland has around 850 stores in the UK.

The budget retailer also acquired Poundshop.com in March 2022, which will allow it to speed up its rollout of home delivery services.

The brand said the acquisition is part of a winder "transformation of Poundland" that will power a national roll-out of its own online store, following a trial last year.
